Google has introduced Expert Intelligence, a new Gemini-powered feature that lets readers analyse eligible e-books purchased through Google Play Books inside Gemini Notebook.

Readers can ask questions about a book, generate summaries, quizzes, infographics and audio overviews, and combine the book’s content with their own notes and ideas to create personalised insights and action plans.

The launch covers more than 100,000 books from major publishers, including Penguin Random House, Macmillan, O’Reilly Media and Bloomsbury. Google has also worked with more than 15 bestselling authors to create specialised notebooks with additional material.

Importantly, access is tied to legitimate purchases through Google Play Books, creating a model that combines AI-powered learning with stronger copyright protection.

This could transform e-books from something readers simply consume into interactive knowledge resources they can question, explore and apply.
