Omanβs mobile instant payment system processed 224.2 million transactions worth RO8.218 billion during the first half of 2026, with transaction value increasing 72% year-on-year and volume rising 49%. The growth has pushed instant payments ahead of OmanNet in total transaction value, although OmanNet continues to lead in transaction volume.
The shift comes as consumers and businesses increasingly use mobile-based payments for transfers, merchant payments and larger transactions. Across Omanβs retail payment systems, 606.5 million transactions worth RO29.2 billion were recorded during H1 2026.
The momentum could be further supported by the Central Bank of Omanβs July 2026 reforms, which waived fees for certain local digital fund transfers by individuals and SMEs through digital banking channels and reduced the maximum merchant fee for QR-based Scan and Pay transactions from 0.75% to 0.50%.
