Coordination
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is scheduled to brief the United Nations Security Council next week during the UN General Assembly in New York. The 15-member Council is expected to hold an open meeting focused on artificial intelligence and international security, with Altman attending in person.
According to OpenAI, Altmanโs remarks are expected to address the need for international coordination, shared AI safety standards and responsible development, alongside measures the company is taking to ensure AI benefits people globally.
The meeting comes amid increasing international discussion about the potential misuse of advanced AI systems and the need for stronger safeguards. France, which holds the Security Council presidency in September, has highlighted concerns around malicious use and called for safe and responsible AI development.
