Oman has awarded two new mining concession areas covering 1,687 sq km across Dakhiliyah, Al Wusta and South Sharqiyah, strengthening efforts to expand mineral exploration and develop new mining projects.

The two areas are expected to attract a combined US$15.4 million in exploration investment. Concession Area 51-B covers 1,050 sq km and has an estimated investment of US$6.2 million, while Area 25-E covers around 637 sq km with an estimated US$9.2 million investment. Exploration will include geological, geophysical and remote-sensing surveys, geochemical analysis, drilling and exploratory trenching.

The development forms part of Omanโ€™s broader strategy to move from mineral exploration toward production, processing and higher-value mineral industries inside the country. The Ministry of Energy and Minerals says 28 mining concession areas have been awarded over the past five years, while mineral-sector revenues increased by about 39% in 2025, supported in part by copper entering production.
