OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Images 2.5, a major upgrade to its image-generation capabilities, bringing sharper details, more natural lighting and textures, faster generation and more precise editing. OpenAI says generation latency has been reduced by up to 50% compared with Images 2.0.

The new release also improves multi-turn editing, allowing users to make targeted changes while better preserving the rest of an image. This is particularly useful for creative and professional workflows where consistency matters across multiple revisions.

One of the most notable additions is Sketch, which allows users to draw an idea directly in ChatGPT and use it as a visual reference. New templates also help users quickly create formats such as posters and product visuals, while image comments provide more focused editing control.

For developers, OpenAI has introduced GPT-Image-2.5 Flare and GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst in the API, targeting faster high-quality generation and more precise professional creative workflows. Images 2.5 is rolling out across ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex.
