Oman is strengthening the use of artificial intelligence, modern technologies and non-traditional data sources in official statistics. At the 17th session of the ESCWA Statistical Committee in Jabal Akhdar, participants recommended establishing the “Muscat Team” to advance the use of AI in household income and expenditure surveys, building on Oman’s experience in applying AI to statistical data collection and analysis.

The initiative reflects a wider push to make national statistical systems more efficient, resilient, accurate and responsive, while improving data governance, administrative records and evidence-based policymaking. Oman’s experience was highlighted for its potential to improve data collection and processing, accelerate indicator production and strengthen the quality of statistical outputs.
